# ✈️ I’ve Already Left for My Trip — Can I Still Get Travel Insurance?

Great question! If you're already on your trip and realize you forgot to buy travel insurance — here’s what you need to know:


 **🚨 Can You Still Purchase Coverage?**

**In most cases, yes — but with limitations.**  
You can still purchase travel insurance **up to 48 hours after departing from your home province**.  
However, if it’s been **more than 48 hours since you left**, you won’t be eligible to purchase a policy.

Coverage may also have restrictions depending on the insurer and type of plan. If a policy is purchased within seven days after departure, illness or disease coverage has a **48-hour waiting period** from the policy’s effective date. Illness or disease arising, occurring, or becoming symptomatic during that period is not covered; related expenses incurred after the waiting period may also remain excluded.


 ⏳ **What Happens If You Buy After Departure?**

* You won’t be covered for anything that’s already happened or ongoing (e.g., an existing illness or injury from before the policy start)
    
* Trip cancellation benefits are  **not available** after departure
    
* Accidents or injuries are covered immediately during the waiting period; illness coverage is not
