# 📄 Why Do I See the Wrong Name or Start Date on My Tenant Insurance Policy Document?

If you're reviewing your tenant insurance documents and the **name** or **start date** seems incorrect, you're not alone — and it's likely not a mistake. Here's what’s going on:

### 🧾 Policyholder vs. Certificate Holder

Your insurance document includes two different names for a reason:

* **Policyholder**
    This refers to the company that holds the group policy — typically **2678562 Ontario Inc.**  
    ➤ This is an administrative name, not your personal information.
    
* **Certificate Holder**
    This is **you** — the tenant. Your name, rental address, and specific coverage details appear here.  
    ➤ This section is what applies to your individual insurance coverage.


### 📅 Why the Start Date Might Look Off

If you're looking at the **policy wording document**, you might see a start date that looks outdated or doesn't match when you purchased your coverage. That’s because:

* The **policy wording document** shows the date the overall group policy was created (not your specific policy start date).
    
* Your **personal start date** is listed on your **certificate of insurance** — this is the document that reflects your actual coverage timeline.

So if you’re trying to verify your insurance start date, always refer to your **certificate**, not the general policy wording.


### 🏢 What Property Managers Need to See

If your landlord or property manager is requesting **proof of insurance**, you should send them your **certificate of insurance** — not the policy wording document.

The certificate includes:

* Your name and address
    
* Policy start and end dates
    
* Coverage confirmation
