What’s the Difference Between Single Trip and Multi-Trip Travel Insurance?

When you're booking travel insurance, you'll be asked to choose between single trip or multi-trip (annual) coverage. Here’s what each one means and how to choose the right option.

🧳 Single Trip Insurance

Covers one trip—from the day you leave your home province or territory until the day you return. Once the trip ends, so does the coverage.

Good to know:

You’ll need to purchase a new policy each time you travel.

Ideal if you’re taking one vacation or getaway during the year.

Coverage begins on the departure date and ends on the return date (or when you return home earlier, if applicable).

You must purchase this before your departure date for it to be valid.

🌍 Multi-Trip (Annual) Insurance

Covers multiple trips throughout the year, with a maximum trip length per trip (for example, 15, 30, or 60 days, depending on the plan you choose).

Good to know:

You don’t need to notify us before each trip—you’re automatically covered as long as you’re within the trip length limit.

Ideal for frequent travellers, snowbirds, or anyone who crosses provincial or international borders multiple times a year.

Coverage renews automatically for each new trip taken within the coverage period.

Additional Notes:

Both types can include emergency medical, trip interruption, baggage coverage, and more—depending on your plan.

You must be medically stable at the time of purchasing the policy.
