🚘 KOHO Travel Insurance: What’s Required for Rental Car Coverage?
If you're a KOHO customer purchasing travel insurance, you have the option to add Rental Car Protection to your TuGo plan. This optional add-on can cover up to $75,000 for damage to a rental car — but only if a few key conditions are met.
TuGo’s Rental Car Protection can only be purchased as part of a KOHO travel insurance policy. You’ll need to select it at the time of purchase, along with another plan like Emergency Medical Insurance or an All-Inclusive Package. It’s not available as a standalone policy.
Be a KOHO customer who added Rental Car Protection when buying travel insurance
Rent from a licensed car rental agency (no peer-to-peer apps like Turo)
Be listed as a driver on the rental agreement
Have a valid driver’s license
Use the vehicle for personal travel only (not commercial use or delivery)
Follow all terms in the rental agreement
You rent from an unlicensed provider or a sharing app
You accept the rental company’s collision damage waiver (CDW)
You damage a replacement or exotic vehicle
You break the rental terms (e.g. unauthorized driver, off-roading, or illegal use)
Damage results from neglect, wear and tear, or mechanical failure
📝 For claims over $2,000, a police report is required.
This add-on only covers damage to the rental vehicle. It does not cover:
Medical costs (those fall under Emergency Medical Insurance)
Liability (damage or injury to other people or vehicles)
Stolen items from the car
Roadside assistance
