Repatriation Coverage (aka: Getting You Home Safely)
What even is repatriation?
Repatriation is the part of your travel insurance that covers getting you back home if something serious happens while you’re away.
There are two types:
- Medical Repatriation
If you get seriously sick or injured on your trip, TuGo can:
- Fly you back to Canada by air ambulance
- Arrange medical staff to travel with you
- Coordinate a medically-safe trip home once you’re stable
Important:
You don’t book your own emergency flight.
If TuGo doesn’t arrange it, it’s not covered.
(This is how literally all travel medical insurance works.)
- Repatriation of Remains
If someone on your policy passes away while travelling, TuGo covers:
- Preparation of remains
- Transport back to your home province
- Cremation at the place of death (where allowed)
This applies only if the person is insured on your policy.
“Do I have to wait if I’m sick?”
No — but TuGo has to coordinate everything.
If their medical team says you need to come home, they’ll arrange it.
You won’t be left stuck.
“Does the $5 million cover repatriation?”
Yep.
Repatriation is included in your Emergency Medical coverage limit.
You don’t pay extra for it and it’s per person.
When repatriation ISN’T covered
TuGo won’t cover repatriation if:
- You book your own medical flight without approval
- It’s not medically necessary
- The person isn’t insured on the policy
- The situation falls under a policy exclusion (e.g., unstable pre-existing medical conditions)
